Operations ManagerrnTampa Bay Watch Discovery Center – Saint Petersburg, FLrnrnJob DescriptionrnPosition Title: Operations Manager rnDepartment: Discovery CenterrnReports to: Discovery Center, Executive DirectorrnLocation: St. Petersburg Pier and OfficernFLSA Status: ExemptrnEstablished in 1993, Tampa Bay Watch is a 501(C)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the recovery and protection of the Tampa Bay estuary through scientific and educational programs.rnOpening in the spring of 2020 on the new St. Pete Pier, the Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center will offer interactive exhibits, aquariums, presentations and programs to engage and inspire the public to preserve Tampa Bay and the world’s oceans for current and future generations.rnPosition Summary: Under limited supervision of the Executive Director, the Operations Manager will oversee Guest Services and inspire visitors by creating a memorable experience at the Discovery Center. The Operations Manager will be responsible for smooth and efficient daily operation of the Discovery Center, including achieving service and fiscal goals in a fast-paced and high-volume environment while maintaining quality standards.rnPhysical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform these physical movements: stand for extended periods of time; use hands to operate, activate, prepare, inspect, place, detect, and position objects; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; walk. The employee occasionally is required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift, push, and/or move displays and other objects weighing up to 50 pounds around the Discovery Center. The position may also include extended periods of time outside in all types of year-round Florida weather and climate, as well as time spent on the water in our Eco-tour vessel.rnPrimary Responsibility: The Operations Manager’s primary responsibility is ensuring a positive guest experience throughout all aspects of the operation. He/she will take the lead in driving excellence in the guest experience, ticket sales, retail sales and will oversee all guest relations. He/she must embrace and model outstanding customer service, run efficient business operations and maintain high employee morale.rnThe Operations Manager also serves as a role model to the front line staff leading by example, coaching and motivating a team of employees and volunteers each day in a year-round operation. He/she will be responsible for the development, implementation, training, daily management of floor operations and exhibit interpretation.rnThis position works with the Executive Director to manage the daily operations of the Center, supporting guest experience teams to ensure consistency. Duties include:rn· Understanding and actively managing environmental, health, safety and security responsibilitiesrn· Overseeing general admissions and advance ticket purchases for school groups, programs, tours and special eventsrn· Scheduling staff and volunteers for daily operations and special eventsrn· Supervising team leads and associatesrn· With Education Coordinator, ensuring all animal and collection procedures are followed dailyrn· Overseeing ticketing and Point of Sale transactions, including daily reconciliation, cash management and depositsrn· Developing and implementing quality training programs for all staff and volunteersrn· Using best retail practices to manage retail inventory, merchandising and displaysrn· As directed, ordering and managing various inventories and suppliesrn· Developing and maintaining effective relationships with vendorsrn· Managing operational budgetsrn· Maintaining a professional presence while performing dutiesrn· Performing other duties as assignedrn· Maintaining a positive attitude that fosters a fun and productive work environmentrnExperience Required: rn· Associates Degree or 5 years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience; Bachelor’s degree preferredrn·Completion of a satisfactory DCF Level II Background Screeningrn·Experience managing a small team in a high volume guest-focused environmentrn·Ability to handle confidential and financial informationrn·Positive attitude that fosters a fun and productive work environmentrn·Demonstrated experience developing continuous improvement within an organization across all functionsrn·Strong written and verbal skillsrn·Computer literacy with MS Office Suite is required. Experience with retail or admission ticketing software preferredrn·Ability to work weekends and holidaysrnFamiliarity with coastal ecosystems is helpful but not required. A passion for the environment is highly desired. Salary is commensurate with level of experience.
